Lots of people use ChatGPT every day, but many don't use all it can do. Most users only know the basics. Even regular users might not know some easy ways to make their experience better and save time.
Easy Wins for Managing Chats
Use Temporary Chat for Privacy
Need to keep a conversation private? Turn on Temporary Chat. Go to the model list and choose "Temporary Chat." What you say here won't show in your history. OpenAI won't use it to train their models, and it won't be added to Memory. This is great if you discuss private company info or just have quick, random questions you won't need again. It keeps your main history clean.
Find Past Chats Fast
Forget the name of a past chat? Or when it happened? You can use the search bar in the top left. A faster way is to type Command+K on Mac or Control+K on Windows. A search box appears. Type what you talked about, and it shows chat titles and quick parts from your past chats on that topic. Click on one to open the full chat. It makes finding old talks easy.
Quick Keyboard Shortcuts
[P]To work faster in ChatGPT, use keyboard shortcuts. Press Command+/ (forward slash) to see a list. Some useful ones include:
Command+Shift+C: Copy the last response.
Command+Shift+O: Open a new chat.
Command+Shift+S: Hide or show the sidebar for a cleaner view.
Command+Shift+I: Quickly open Custom Instructions.
Another helpful shortcut is pressing / (forward slash) while in a chat. This brings up a list of actions like making an image or searching the web. You can pick one using arrow keys without taking your hand off the keyboard.
Get More from Your AI with Memory and Instructions
See What ChatGPT Remembers
If Memory is on, ChatGPT remembers things about you from your chats. It learns details over time. You can see what it knows by going to your Profile > Settings > Personalization. Here you find Memory. You can turn it off. Or click "Manage" to remove things you don't want it to remember. Delete old or unneeded facts so it focuses on what matters for your current needs. If you want it to remember something specific, you can just type "Remember this: [detail]" during a chat.
Use Custom Instructions
[P]Custom Instructions tell ChatGPT how to act in all your chats. Think of Memory as remembering facts about you, and Instructions as telling it how to respond. You can tell it things like:
Respond without giving many disclaimers.
Be short and direct unless I ask for more detail.
Don't apologize in responses.
Focus on making requested changes first.
Set rules here for anything that bothers you often in its responses. This helps ChatGPT talk to you the way you prefer, every time.
Organize and Control Your Data
Archive or Delete Chats
In the chat settings (the three dots), you can Archive a chat. This removes it from your main history list but doesn't delete it completely. You can still find archived chats by searching or by going to Profile > Settings > General > Archived Chats. "Manage" shows them all. You can also delete chats completely if you don't need them at all.
Control Model Training
Under Profile > Settings > Data Controls, there's a setting called "Improve the model for everyone." This is on by default. It lets OpenAI use your chat content to make the model better. If you share private or secret information, turn this off. This keeps your data from being used for training reasons.
Working with Images in ChatGPT
Improve Image Quality
Did you know you can ask ChatGPT to make images better? After it generates an image, you can ask it to "upscale this image" or "sharpen and enhance the details." Sometimes you might need to be specific, like mentioning the Python Pillow library which is what's happening in the background. It can create a file for you to download with the changes. While other tools like Midjourney offer more advanced image creation, this is a quick way to improve what you have within ChatGPT.
Want to bring the efficiency you're finding in ChatGPT to your creative AI work, especially with images? Check out the revolutionary Midjourney Automation Suite from TitanXT. It helps manage prompts, track outputs, and automate your workflow in Midjourney, taking your image generation to the next level.
Edit Images Too
You can also try to make small edits to images. This includes Inpainting (removing parts of an image) or asking it to change elements based on a prompt. While this feature isn't always perfect, it can be useful for minor adjustments without leaving the chat environment.
Different Ways to Input Information
Try Voice Mode
[P]If you haven't used Voice Mode, give it a try. It's helpful for many things.
Have hands-free chats while you're moving around (walking, driving).
Quickly get answers or take notes when your hands are busy.
Practice speaking another language.
Brainstorm ideas out loud.
Present information you've learned and get instant suggestions on how to say it better.
Using your voice can make talking with your AI feel more natural and helps with multitasking.
Upload Images, PDFs, and Data
[P]You can upload different types of files into ChatGPT:
Images: Ask it to identify things, solve problems shown in a picture, or describe what's in an image. It can understand many types of images.
PDFs: Upload documents to analyze, summarize, or pull out main points.
Data Files (Spreadsheets/Text Files): Upload data to analyze it. ChatGPT can do calculations, find patterns, and make charts or graphs to show the data visually.
Being able to bring these files directly into your chat opens up many possibilities for getting help with research, work, or personal tasks.
Control How ChatGPT Responds
Ask for Specific Output Formats
[P]Beyond regular text paragraphs, you can ask ChatGPT to give you information in different ways like:
Tables
Bullet points
Checklists
You can also ask for output as specific file types, like exporting a table as a spreadsheet file instead of just copying and pasting the text.
Work Smarter with Projects and Tools
Use the Canvas Feature
Canvas gives you a special area within ChatGPT to work on longer texts, like scripts or code. You open Canvas, add your text, and ask ChatGPT to make changes directly in that space. It lets you edit, rewrite, or review text without filling up your main chat history. If you're chatting normally and decide you want to use Canvas for something, just ask, and it will switch over. When you ask for code, it often opens it in Canvas automatically so it's easier to look at and fix.
Keep Context with Projects
Projects help keep related chats and information together. You can upload files (like guides or examples) into a Project folder. Then, you can start new chats within that Project. The AI remembers the files and past talks in that Project. This keeps the AI focused and speeds up tasks where you use similar info often. It's great for ongoing tasks that need consistent details.
Managing multiple AI projects, especially visual ones, can get complicated. Just like Projects help keep your ChatGPT workflows organized, did you know there's a tool built specifically for organizing and enhancing your Midjourney image creation? The Midjourney Automation Suite from TitanXT lets you manage your Midjourney prompts, track your creations, and use automation to streamline your artistic process. It's worth exploring if you want to take control of your image generation workflow.
Explore Custom GPTs
Custom GPTs are like mini tools or "apps" within ChatGPT made for specific jobs. Instead of building one yourself, search the GPT store. Lots of people make GPTs for many uses, like research, writing prompts for other AI tools (like image or video generators), or specialized tasks. If someone already made a GPT for what you need, use theirs. You can add useful GPTs to your sidebar to keep them handy. You can also use a custom GPT in any regular chat by typing "@" and choosing the GPT from your list.
Advanced Models Like GPT-4o
More advanced models, like GPT-4o, offer even deeper thinking and ability to connect ideas. While they might cost more or be in testing, they show how capable these AI models are becoming. They can work through complex problems and find connections that are hard to see otherwise. Looking at what these advanced models can do gives an idea of where AI abilities are heading.
Using these advanced models or special features like image generation can be powerful. To get the absolute most out of your creative AI workflows, including how you interact with tools like Midjourney, think about how you can automate repetitive tasks and manage your projects more efficiently. Using These Tips
Using these ideas can change how you work with ChatGPT. From keeping chats private and clean to using different input types and organizing projects, there are many ways to get more from the tool. Try out the ones that seem most helpful for what you do. They can save you time and make your work better.
