Midjourney is constantly evolving, bringing new features and improvements. The team just wrapped up their March updates, and there's a lot to look forward to, including news about the upcoming V7 model, handy new editor tools, and progress on video generation. Let's dive into what's happening.
Midjourney V7 Is On the Horizon
Good news for everyone waiting for V7! It's getting very close to release. Guides and mods have been testing it, and they are working to add the new Omni reference feature. The goal is to release it soon, potentially very quickly.
Initially, V7 will come out as an alpha version. This means it will have some limits as they finish making changes over the first few weeks. Later, it will become the standard model.
What to Expect from V7
Omni Reference: This feature is V7's main highlight. It's confirmed to work with various elements like logos, characters (human and not), and objects. It might even work with whole scenes.
Better Results: The team gathered prompts V6 had trouble with. V7 is said to handle about 70% of these better. Prompt understanding and how well parts of the image fit together are improved.
Faster Jobs: V7 should be quicker than V6, meaning your image generation jobs will run faster.
Initial Limitations: At first, V7 will use V6's upscaling and inpainting tools. V7 versions of these will come later. Some features like `tile` and multiple prompts might not be there right away but should arrive in a few weeks.
Compatibility: Your V6 personalization, sref codes, and mood board codes should work with V7.
With V7 getting closer, having tools to help you manage your creations becomes even more valuable. Explore how you can streamline your Midjourney workflow with the TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite.
Helpful Updates to the Editor
A new smart selection tool is now in the full editor. It might come to the basic editor soon too. This tool makes it easier to choose areas in your image.
Using the New Selection Tool
Go to the select option in the editor.
Click an area in your image to select it.
Choose "remove" to delete the selected part.
Choose "isolate" to keep only the selected part and remove everything else.
Click multiple spots to select more than one area.
Hold Shift to remove a selection you've made.
Click exactly where a plus sign appears to remove a whole pre-selected section. Clicking elsewhere in that section might only remove part of it.
Use undo if you remove too much by mistake.
After you select and remove or isolate areas, you can change the canvas size or zoom level. Then, add your prompt, and Midjourney will use your prompt and the existing image content to fill the empty spots.
There are plans for another editor update soon. This could bring a new layers feature and put the smart selection tool in the basic editor. They also want to move the retexture feature to the main workflow so everyone can use it, not just full editor users.
Progress on Video and 3D
Big training runs for the video model are set to start soon in April. A recent survey helped the team understand what users want for video in terms of cost and features. The plan is for video to be available on all subscription levels and work on both the website and Discord.
Work on 3D features will pick up again after V7 is released. The first goal for 3D is to let you move the camera around in an image and see the scene from different angles.
Managing different image types, whether they are standard images, future video outputs, or 3D scenes, can be time-consuming. Consider how the TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite can help organize and automate your various Midjourney projects.
Patchwork Updates
Patchwork, Midjourney's tool for building stories and worlds, is also seeing updates. You can now log in at patchwork.midjourney.com using Google or Discord.
After logging in, you'll see a list of worlds, with your own world at the top. You can scroll down to visit worlds others have made open to the public. Inside a world, a new 'travel' button lets you easily go back to the list of worlds.
Patchwork is still in research mode, with work happening this year to add things like threads for quickly building story sequences. Learning the basics of Patchwork can be rewarding.

These updates show a lot of exciting things are coming to Midjourney. From a new core model to improved editing and creative tools, there's a lot to look forward to trying out.
