Midjourney is always evolving. Here's a quick look at some important updates announced around late January 2024, covering improvements to the website, progress on Version 6 features, and where things are headed next for the AI image tool.

Improvements to the Public Website

A general update recently rolled out for all users of the main Midjourney website. These changes make it easier to find and manage your images.

  • The search bar is now always at the top of the page for quick access.

  • More options were added to filter the images you see. You can filter by things like landscape or portrait orientation, or by which version (V6 or V5) was used.

  • New choices were added for how you want the images to display on your screen.

  • You can now create folders and smart folders to help keep your images organized.

  • You can select several images at once by clicking and dragging. This lets you download, publish, or unpublish multiple images together.

Midjourney V6 Feature Updates

The CEO of Midjourney, David Holz, recently shared news during a regular update session. There's good progress on V6, but some things are taking a little longer.

Core V6 Features on Hold

Basic features like inpainting, outpainting, vary region, and pan/zoom are not yet available in V6. Their release was delayed because some team members were away. It was mentioned that these features were expected soon, maybe the week after the update was given.

Working on Consistency and Style

A feature to create consistent styles across your images is making good progress. It sounds likely to be released soon.

Work on a feature for consistent characters is also happening. However, it might not come out at the same time as consistent styles. It seems they are exploring using a similar method for characters as they plan for styles, possibly using a source image to guide character details.

The Style Tuner, which helps you fine-tune image styles, is also being worked on for V6. The team is testing different versions, including one based on the V5 tuner. The goal is to accurately reproduce styles based on testing results.

Niji V6 and Video Development State

Niji V6, the anime-specific model, is still being developed. It faced some minor delays due to development issues.

Midjourney Video is also behind schedule. The main reason is difficulty getting the necessary data needed to train the model. There isn't a specific release date yet. The team is working to get enough computing power (gpus) so that everyone who wants to use the video feature can do so easily.

Managing all these updates and trying different versions can be time-consuming. Streamline your workflow with the Midjourney Automation Suite from TitanXT.

Alpha Website Progress

  • The Explore page is getting an update to show more different images with more variety. It will also show fewer common types of images.

  • The design of the Create page, Explore page, and Lightbox is being updated. This includes changes to how buttons work and overall improvements to how users interact with the site.

  • A simpier rating system is being developed. The goal is to make it easier for users to give feedback that helps guide development.

Looking Ahead: What's Coming Next?

Here are some of the main things the Midjourney team is focused on for the near future.

  • Give more users access to the Alpha website.

  • Make V6 fully match the capabilities of V5.

  • Transition V6 to a Beta version and make it the default model for users.

  • Make V6 faster.

Once the V6 Beta is finished, the focus will likely shift to Video, exploring Version 7, and releasing updates more often to fix issues and add new features.

Getting User Feedback

The team is setting up a new system to regularly ask users for their opinions. This feedback will help decide what features and improvements are most important.

Major surveys are planned for February. These surveys will ask users about their preferences for image aesthetics. The results will help improve personalization options. People who take part in the surveys will be given GPU hours as a thank you.

As Midjourney evolves with features like personalization and new versions, keeping track of your best prompts and styles becomes key. The Midjourney Automation Suite from TitanXT helps you manage your creations effectively.

In Summary

Midjourney continues to roll out useful features like website organization tools while making progress on delayed V6 features like inpainting and consistent styles. Work on the Alpha site is improving layout and feedback methods, and the team is preparing for major steps like making V6 the default model and exploring Video and V7, all guided by user input.
