A Midjourney generated image using Midjourney Automation Suite

Have you ever created stunning images in Midjourney, only to realize someone else could easily make the exact same thing? Most Midjourney images aren't truly unique because prompts, parameters, and seeds can be copied. Even using image references doesn't guarantee uniqueness, as those are often public too. But now, there's a simple way to create images that are 100% unique and hard to reproduce.

This change comes from a small update that wasn't widely reported: you can now assign specific weights to each individual image reference in your prompt.

Want to make your Midjourney workflow more efficient and powerful? Explore the Midjourney Automation Suite from TitanXT. It can help you manage and enhance your creative process.

The Old Way: Global Image Weight

Before this update, you could only control the overall importance of *all* image references compared to your text prompt using the `--iw` parameter.

Here's how that worked:

Imagine your prompt was:

`image_url_A image_url_B text prompt here --v 5.2 --ar 16:9`

By default, both images together had a weight of 1, and the text prompt had a weight of 1. So images were 50% of the influence, and text was 50%.

If you added `--iw 0.5`, the images' influence was halved compared to the text. They would collectively represent about one-third (33%) of the prompt's influence, while the text was two-thirds (67%).

While helpful, you couldn't tell Midjourney to prioritize `image_url_A` differently from `image_url_B` within that image group.

The New Way: Individual Image Weights

The big change is the ability to apply weights to individual image URLs using the multi-prompt syntax (`::`).

You break down your prompt into segments using `::` and assign a weight after each segment.

Example Prompt Structure:

`imagine image_url_A::weightA image_url_B::weightB text prompt here::weightC`

The weights you assign are ratios. Midjourney adds up all the weights and determines the influence of each segment based on its weight relative to the total.

[P]For instance, if your prompt is `image_url_A::1 image_url_B::2 text prompt::3`, the total weight is 1 + 2 + 3 = 6.

[/UL][/P]

You don't need a text prompt; it's optional. You can blend images alone using this method.

Blending Images with Weights

Let's try a practical example using three images: one with futuristic structures, one with warriors, and one with vegetation. We'll blend them and see how weights change the result.

[P]First, a simple blend without specific individual weights (they implicitly get a weight of 1):[/P>

[P]`imagine image_url_vegetation image_url_structures --v 5.2 --ar 16:9 --style raw --seed 1`[/P>

This gives a combination of both images, showing structures and some patchy vegetation.

Now, let's give the vegetation image more weight:

`imagine image_url_vegetation::2 image_url_structures::1 --v 5.2 --ar 16:9 --style raw --seed 1`

With the vegetation weight doubled compared to the structures, the resulting images show significantly more vegetation and the structures appear less dominant.

[P]You can blend multiple images this way, controlling how much each contributes. For example, blending the three images with different weights:[/P>

`imagine image_url_vegetation::1.5 image_url_structures::1 image_url_warriors::2 --v 5.2 --ar 16:9 --style raw`

This creates a complex scene influenced by all three source images, with the warrior element having the most influence in this specific blend.

Achieving True Uniqueness with Personal Photos

To make your creations truly one-of-a-kind, mix photos you took yourself into the blend. Midjourney has never seen your personal photos before, so images created using them will be impossible for others to replicate exactly.

Combine Midjourney generated images with your personal photos and apply weights:

`imagine mj_img_veg::1 mj_img_struct::1.25 mj_img_warriors::2 my_photo_morocco::0.5 my_photo_karoo::0.2 my_photo_dubai::0.2 --v 5.2 --ar 16:9 --style raw`

In this example, we blend the three Midjourney images with three personal travel photos. Weights are adjusted based on what we want to emphasize (e.g., a higher weight on the Morocco photo because it contains structures we want to inject). The low weights on the other personal photos still add unique desert characteristics without overpowering the scene.

Adding Detail with Remix Mode

One common issue when blending images, especially without much text, is that the results can sometimes look a bit unrealistic or smooth, almost like video game graphics.

You can fix this and add detail using Remix mode and Low Variation.

Steps:

[LI]Add a detailed text prompt that describes the scene you want, incorporating elements from the original blended images.[/LI>

[LI]You can even add segments with weights in the text prompt if you want to emphasize certain details.[/LI]

[/UL]

Example Remix Prompt (after upscaling a blended image):

`science fiction film still wide angle shot of army of Dune Warriors in the style of crowd scenes walking toward monolithic city-like structures in a desert landscape covered in patches of lush tropical vegetation:: --style raw --v 5.2 --ar 16:9 patches of lush tropical vegetation::0.2`

[P]Using the upscaled blended image as a base composition, Midjourney applies the new text prompt. Remix mode with Low Variation ensures the overall layout stays similar, but the text prompt injects much more detail, texture, and realism into the scene. Surfaces become less smooth, and fine details appear.[/P>

Conclusion

The ability to individually weight image references is a game-changer for creating unique Midjourney images. By carefully blending multiple images, including your own photographs, and refining the result with Remix mode and detailed text prompts, you can move beyond easily reproducible AI art to generate truly original visuals.
