Exploring Midjourney V6: New Features and What to Expect

Midjourney Version 6 has arrived! After many months of work, this alpha version brings some exciting changes to how you create images.

It's important to remember V6 is still in testing, so things might change. But there's a lot to explore right now. You can switch to V6 by typing /settings and choosing it from the menu, or simply add `--v6` at the end of your prompt.

Create Text in Your Images

One of the most requested features is here: V6 can generate text! To do this, put the text you want inside quotation marks in your prompt. For example, you can ask for a picture of an old VHS tape with a specific title on it.

Getting text perfect can still be like a slot machine sometimes. If you have trouble, try adding `--style raw` and potentially lowering the `--s` (stylize) value. This seems to help get better results.

Prompting is Different Now

If you're used to prompting in V5, get ready to learn new tricks. How you write prompts matters more in V6. The old ways of using just short keywords with commas might not give you the best results anymore. Long, detailed sentences might not be the only way either. Experiment with different writing styles to see what works best for your ideas.

Enhanced Image Quality and Realism

Right away, you might notice images look more realistic in V6, even with the default settings. Simple prompts can produce really beautiful pictures. It seems V6 has a better understanding of concepts like cinematic views or specific photographic styles without you needing to spell it all out.

Greater Consistency with Seeds

Something powerful in V6 is how it handles seeds. When you use a seed number and try different stylize values (`--s`), you can often get the same characters appearing in the images. This is a big step towards creating sequences of images with familiar faces, almost like simulating a photo shoot with consistent subjects.

Want to take your Midjourney work to the next level? Consider automating repetitive tasks. The TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite can help manage your generations and streamline your workflow, letting you focus more on the creative part.

Handling Many Details at Once

One of the most impressive improvements is V6's ability to follow detailed instructions within a single prompt. You can describe multiple elements, including specific colors and objects, and V6 is much better at including them all accurately.

  • A person with blue glasses? No problem.

  • Add red earrings? It gets that too.

  • Put them in a green sweater? Yes, it manages three details.

  • Sitting in a yellow sports car? It can nail four or more distinct elements.

  • Even adding facial expressions or other complex items seems possible.

`--style raw` and adding keywords like "unsplash" seem to help maintain realism when prompts get very long and detailed. This level of control opens up many creative possibilities.

New Upscaling and Variation Options

After you generate your initial grid and pick an image to upscale, you'll see new options:

  • Upscale Subtle: Makes the image higher resolution while keeping it very close to the original.

  • Upscale Creative: Takes your upscaled image and tries different creative ideas, potentially changing the composition or style.

The variation buttons underneath your upscaled image also have subtle and strong options now. Subtle variations make small changes, while strong variations can significantly alter the pose or composition while trying to keep the original idea and style.

Experimenting with Remix

You can turn on Remix mode by typing `/prefer remix`. When Remix is on, hitting a variation button brings up a prompt box where you can edit the prompt for that specific variation. You can add or remove details, trying to get different outcomes from the same starting image. This is a great way to iterate on your ideas without starting from scratch.

Managing many prompts and variations can become time-consuming. Tools designed for Midjourney automation, like the TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite, can help you keep track of your experiments and scale up your image generation process efficiently.

What's Next?

Midjourney V6 is a significant update with many powerful new abilities, especially in understanding prompts and incorporating multiple details. While it's still learning (it is an alpha, after all), features like text generation and improved consistency are exciting.

There's a lot more to discover as people explore V6. Learning the new prompting style will take time, but the initial results suggest a new level of control and realism is possible.

As you get deeper into exploring V6 and running more complex prompts and variations, you might find automation helpful. Check out the TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite to see how you can automate parts of your workflow.
