Midjourney is constantly updating and improving. Recently, they added some helpful new features on their website. Plus, we have updates on the next version, V7, and other exciting things planned for the future, like 3D and video tools. Let's see what's new and what's coming soon.

Immediate New Features You Can Use

Describe Functionality on the Site

The 'Describe' tool is now fully available on the Midjourney website. Before, you could only use a version of it on Discord. What does it do? You give it an image, and Midjourney suggests possible prompts that could create a similar image. This is great for understanding how to describe styles or elements you see but aren't sure how to phrase in a prompt.

For example, if you upload a photo with a specific look or texture, Describe might give you terms like "grainy film appearance," "dark and blurry background," or "1970s aesthetic." You can then use these words in your own prompts to get a similar style. It helps you find the right words for styles that are hard to describe yourself.

Mixing Moodboards and Styles

Midjourney Moodboards are like mini-styles or themes you can create. You put images with a certain look into a Moodboard (like photorealistic, specific camera angles, or even creepy styles from older versions). When you use a Moodboard in your prompt, it influences the output image.

Now you can mix different Moodboards together in one prompt. The first tests of mixing Moodboards didn't always work as expected. It seems tricky to get them to blend perfectly without setting weights for each Moodboard yet.

However, a more successful new feature is mixing a Moodboard with an Sref. An Sref (style reference) uses a specific image's visual style as a base for your new image. When you mix a Moodboard style (like the 'cursed' style) with an Sref image (like one with neon lights), the results can be really great. This allows for complex style layering.

Tips for Using Moodboards After the Update

If your Moodboard style isn't showing up strongly enough in your result, try increasing the 'Stylize' parameter (like from 100 to 1000). Moodboards and their influence are connected to this setting. Raising Stylize can make the Moodboard style more dominant.

What's Coming Soon to Midjourney

Midjourney V7 Update

The release of Midjourney V7 has been pushed back a bit. It was first expected in January, then mid-February, and now it might be closer to March. Delays happen, especially with major updates.

When V7 does arrive, we can expect general improvements like:

  • Better image quality.

  • Midjourney understanding prompts more accurately.

  • Improved support for referencing specific objects or characters (related to Sref, but perhaps more focused).

  • Making it easier to create images with multiple characters that look consistent.

3D and Video Features

Midjourney has talked about 3D and video tools for a while, and it sounds like they are making progress. There's confidence that a solid 3D feature will come out this year. This could let you change camera angles on images or crop them in new ways directly within Midjourney.

The team is also feeling more positive about video quality. While combining quality and speed is a challenge, they see promising results. To possibly speed up video features, Midjourney is considering partnerships with other AI tools that are already good at video creation. This could allow them to bring video capabilities faster by working with existing technology, similar to how they partnered for the Niji mode.

Other Planned Features

Another feature users have been waiting for is 'Big Batch,' which would let you generate grids with 8 images instead of the current 4. There's no specific date yet, but it's planned for sometime before or after V7.

Creating many images takes time and resources. Explore the TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite to save effort and streamline your workflows. Generate images in bulk, manage your library, and focus on your creative vision.

Final Thoughts

Midjourney continues to evolve. The new Describe function makes finding prompt terms easier, and the ability to mix Moodboards with Srefs opens up new creative possibilities for combining styles. While V7 is slightly delayed, the promise of better image quality, easier character handling, and future 3D and video tools is exciting. Keep an eye out for these updates as they roll out.
