Big news for Midjourney users: the video creator is here! Now you can turn your static images into short videos. This new tool makes it easy to add motion to your art. Let's look at how this works and what you can create.
Introduction to Midjourney's Video Tool
With Midjourney's new video feature, you can take any image you have made and animate it. These are 480p video files. You can even link several short videos together to make a longer scene. While not every video will be perfect from the start, the process is quick. You can get good results with just a few minutes of work.
To use this image animation tool, you need to go to the Midjourney web interface. It is not available on Discord. So, if you usually use Discord, you will need to switch over to the website to start animating.
Ready to start animating? I suggest you try animating some images you already have. It is a lot of fun to see them move.
Exploring Animation Examples
Let's see some of the things you can do with the new video creator. Many different types of images can be brought to life.
Animals and Characters in Motion
Imagine bison walking across a field. Midjourney gives you four image options to pick from. Each video clip is short, about four or five seconds long. You can extend these clips to make longer scenes. Just click a button, and the video extends from where it left off.
I also made a chrome skull rotate. When you use the "auto" setting, Midjourney decides the motion. But you can give it instructions for more control in "manual" mode. This helps you get the exact kind of movement you want. For instance, I tried extending a video of a person. Each extended clip was different, showing new details like a visor coming down or a head turning.
Abstracts and Objects
You can animate background textures for clients or personal projects. These can be different every time. One might have a gradient that stays the same while the texture changes. Another might move from left to right. Some can even have a wavy look. Patterns also work well, giving a "fly over" effect. I even animated a spaceship, and each version was unique.
Sometimes, the videos show unexpected actions. For example, a bear having breakfast with a bunny might show the bunny jumping up and grabbing food from the plate, even if you did not ask for that exact action. Wolves might howl, but not always perfectly. In some coffee mug videos, bubbles appeared, which might not be what you want. Like with images, Midjourney sometimes has trouble with hands in videos, giving extra fingers. But often, the others look fine.
You can also make cool videos of skulls with flames. My favorite creation is a cute dog. Think about making your own cartoon characters. You could create your own puppy animation and tell your own stories.
Creating and Animating from Scratch
Let's walk through creating an image and then animating it. We will make a cute bobblehead lion.
Image Creation Steps
Start with a clear prompt. For our example, "lion bobblehead action pose chibi style."
You can use an SRE code if you have one. You can also use your personal profile, which influences your video output.
The first step is always to create the image. Since Midjourney can give different results, you can use the "repeat" option to make several images at once. For instance, "repeat 4" creates 16 images.
Pick your favorite image from the ones Midjourney creates. This will be the one you animate.
[HP]Once you select an image, you will see an "animate" option. Click it. There are different animation settings:[/P]
Auto: Midjourney decides the motion with either a "low motion" or "high motion" setting.
Manual: You can type in specific instructions for the animation. For example, you can tell the lion to "run" or "jump." You can use "low motion" or "high motion" with manual control.
Generating these videos takes a few minutes, depending on your Midjourney plan. When done, you will see your animated clips. The auto-generated ones will feature different movements. The high motion options show more intense actions. When you give instructions, like asking the lion to "run," it will try to make the character run. If you ask for "jumping," it will show different jumping movements, like waving arms or pausing in mid-air.

Advanced Animation Techniques
What if you want to make a series of videos that look consistent? You can use an existing image as a style reference for new creations.
Maintaining Image Style and Consistency
Return to your original animated image. Find the prompt and click on "image." This lets you use it as a style reference. Now, instead of a lion, let's make an elephant. Type in "elephant."
The key is to copy the "seed" value from your original image. Paste this seed value when creating the new image. This makes sure that one of the four new images will match the style of your original image.
Once you have your new elephant image, you can animate it just like the lion. For example, you can choose "high motion" and have it "jumping" or "laughing." You will get several videos of the elephant animated in the same style as your bobblehead lion. Sometimes, Midjourney throws in cute details, like baby tusks, even if you did not ask for them.
This technique is very helpful if you are making a larger video project and need a consistent look across different characters or scenes. For more effective animation generation and consistent style control in your projects, remember to check out the Midjourney Automation Suite from TitanXT.
