A Midjourney generated image using Midjourney Automation Suite

AI tools that make videos from images are getting better. But which ones really work well? To find out, we took the same images and tested them across several popular AI video generators. Read on to see the results and which one came out on top.

How the Test Worked

We used a few different images to see how each AI generator handled various subjects and actions. The images were:

  • A robot in a library (expected action: subtle movement, turning pages).

  • Two gorillas fighting (expected action: boxing/brawling).

  • A car driving through a desert with explosions (expected action: car moving forward).

  • A mountain lion running up a mountain (expected action: animal running, camera tracking).

Now, let's look at how each generator did.

Sora AI: Realistic Movement, Direction Issues

Sora showed some impressive results, especially with subtle movements. The robot in the library wasn't just sitting there; it moved the book and even turned pages in some generations. The gorillas got into a real brawl, with some clear punches landing. This level of detail is good.

However, Sora had trouble with consistent direction. The car driving test often showed the car moving backward instead of forward, even with prompts asking it to go forward.

Overall, Sora did well on many complex movements but struggled with simple directional control. It earned an A tier rating.

Generating detailed scenes like these can take time and iteration. Have you tried automating your AI image generation process? The TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite can help streamline your workflow, making it easier to create many variations.

Halo AI: Free Access with Long Waits

Halo AI is free to use, which is a big plus. However, the wait times on the free plan can be very long, sometimes requiring an overnight wait for results. If you need faster generations, a paid plan helps.

In the tests, Halo AI kept the image style consistent, which is important for many creators. The robot generation had some movement. The gorillas actually looked like the original fighting image, unlike Sora which sometimes changed things. The mountain lion generation was decent, although the fur had some bright "AI bloom" effect. The car generation was not good; cars changed color and the video looked like a time lapse.

Despite some mixed results and long free waits, the free access and style consistency gave Halo AI an A tier rating.

Luma Dream Machine: Fast and Free, But Quality Lags

Luma Labs' Dream Machine is known for being fast and having a generous free plan. Getting generations quickly without paying is a big advantage.

However, the quality in these specific tests wasn't great. The robot image only had camera movement, no hand animation as prompted. The gorillas' hands looked warped, and the action was slow motion. The car didn't even stay in the desert; it appeared to be on a boat! The mountain lion's legs warped badly.

While the free access is great, the output quality for these tests landed Luma Dream Machine in the B tier.

Hyper AI: Very Long Free Waits

Hyper AI also offers a free plan with daily credits. Like Halo, it has very long wait times on the free tier, making it difficult to test many examples quickly.

The one robot generation we saw looked quite good, with a slow zoom and subtle hand movement. Previous tests showed some leg warping issues. Due to the extreme wait times and mixed past results compared to others, Hyper AI placed in the C tier for this comparison.

Runway ML: Expensive, Mixed Results

Runway ML is a well-known AI tool but is quite expensive. Even with a paid plan, the number of generations you can do is limited.

The tests showed mixed results. Different models within Runway produced different outcomes. Some generations were too toy-like (gorillas). The car often slid across the screen unnaturaly. The mountain lion looked more like a horse and went off the mountain path. However, it did manage to make the car move forward, unlike Sora and Clipdrop.

It's worth noting that in a previous test, Runway ML was the best for generating a specific type of video (a woman speaking on stage), earning an S tier for that task. But for these general tests, it fell into the A tier.

Understanding AI Prompting

Getting good results from AI video generators often depends heavily on how you phrase your requests. A helpful technique is to break down your prompt into four main parts: Camera, Object, Action, and Background.

  • Camera: How should the camera move? (e.g., slow pan in, drone shot, tracking shot).

  • Object: What is the main subject? (e.g., a hot air balloon, two gorillas).

  • Action: What should the object be doing? (e.g., flying across the sky, boxing).

  • Background: What is the setting? (e.g., a desert, a mountain).

Using this structure can help AI tools better understand your desired outcome. Even with good prompting, generating many variations to find the perfect one can be work. Tools like the TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite are designed to help you manage and scale your AI creative process.

Clipdrop (Cling AI): High Quality, Good Value

Clipdrop, using its Cling 1.6 model, produced some of the best results in these tests. The professional mode for the robot image showed excellent detail, with natural hand movement and facial expressions. This consistency was impressive.

The gorilla fight generation was also very good, showing realistic action and keeping the gorillas consistent in appearance. The mountain lion test worked well, showing the animal running up the mountain with realistic muscle movement in the professional mode.

Like others, Cling struggled with the car driving forward, often showing it going backward or warping. However, the quality on the other tests, combined with reasonable pricing and generous daily credits, put Clipdrop in the S tier.

Krea AI: The Unexpected S Tier Winner

Krea AI earned the top spot (S tier) for a few key reasons. First, its own "animator" tool creates unique, artistic, and visually satisfying videos that transform from image to image. While not aiming for realism, this style is great for content creation that needs to stand out.

Second, and most importantly, Krea's platform lets you use *other* AI video generators directly inside its browser interface, often for free! This includes tools like Halo AI, Luma, Runway, and Clipdrop. This means you get access to several powerful tools in one place with a generous usage policy.

While its own artistic generator might not be for every realistic task, the access it provides to multiple other generators makes it incredibly valuable.

Streamlining your workflow across multiple AI tools is key as you generate more content. Check out the TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite to see how automation can empower your creative projects.

Conclusion: The Top AI Video Generators

Based on these tests, Krea AI stands out not just for its unique artistic style but for bringing several other powerful generators together. Clipdrop (Cling AI) consistently produced high-quality, realistic results for most subjects, with good value.

The world of AI video generation is changing quickly, with tools improving all the time. Krea and Clipdrop showed that it is possible to create impressive video clips from images right now.
