Find out the latest news from Midjourney Office Hours! We cover recent features, upcoming changes, and hints about future versions. Get the scoop on Weird and Stylize, panning, inpainting, and big plans for versions 6 and 7.

Understanding Recent Features: Weird and Stylize

Midjourney recently added new tools. The "Stylize" setting changes how "pretty" an image looks. The "Weird" parameter adds a chaotic touch. It makes the bot try to create something visually appealing, but the result can be unpredictable. Some like that it doesn't always get it "right."

Personal favorites for using these include setting both Stylize and Weird to 250, or both to 500. Experiment to see what results you get.

Zoom Out vs. Panning

There's a difference between using the Zoom Out feature and Panning. Zoom Out looks at the whole image when creating the new parts. Panning only moves to the side. Panning is less consistent because of this. But Panning lets you change your prompt each time, helping you create images that blend together over a larger scene.

Future Plans: Web, Mobile, and Inpainting

Midjourney is working on ways to use the service outside of Discord. This includes web and mobile options. A feature called Inpainting, which lets you change specific parts of an image, will likely come to Discord first. They are waiting for new features from the Discord team to help make this happen.

To make your workflow smoother while you wait for these features, consider the Midjourney Automation Suite from TitanXT. It helps manage your prompts and generations more easily.

What's Next? Version 5.3, 6, and 7 Details

Version 5.3 Might Be the Last V5

There's talk of a possible 5.3 release. If it happens, it would be the final update for version 5.

Progress on Version 6

The models for Version 6 are currently training. The goal is better understanding of language in prompts. This version aims for more diverse visual outputs and a wider range of aesthetics across all types of images.

They are debating if Version 6 should have a new upscaler tool or a larger default image size right away. There might be a resolution bump.

Hopes are that Version 6 could release this month, but it's not certain. It will definitely not be available this week.

Hints About Version 7 and Beyond (Not Confirmed)

Looking further ahead, Version 7 might have a smaller native image size initially but come with a new upscaler. Version 6 might be the last to use the familiar 2x2 grid of images.

Future versions, like Version 7, might give you a much larger set of starting images for each prompt, maybe eight or more. This would increase your chance of finding the image you want faster.

Other Ongoing Efforts

Ongoing research projects are happening in the background. While there aren't specific updates on them, the team is exploring new ideas. They also want to try more community events, maybe including 'Weird' challenges.

Issue three of the Midjourney magazine has been sent out. They are trying to find a new distributor in Europe to speed up international shipping.

Work continues on improving how images are checked for content, especially with filters for image prompts.

Artist Prompt Ideas

The video recap shared artists used in some of the example images. You could try using these in your prompts:

  • Aaron Douglas

  • Pascal Champion

  • Michael Whelan (Note: Midjourney might not recognize this artist consistently)

Using artist names can help guide Midjourney's style for your images.

This recap covers the main points from the latest Midjourney Office Hours. Big changes and new tools are on the horizon. Keep experimenting and creating!
