Midjourney is always changing, bringing new tools and better image creation. This January brought some interesting updates and a look at what's coming next. Let's dive into the details about new features, the timeline for version 7, and what might be coming for video and 3D.

New Features Released This Month

Midjourney rolled out two handy features recently. They give you more ways to guide your creative process.

Blending Multiple Mood Boards

You can now combine more than one mood board in your prompts. This means you can pull inspiration from various collections of images at the same time. Just add the codes for each mood board you want to use after the `/profile` parameter like this:

[LI]/imagine prompt /profile moodboard1code moodboard2code[/LI]

Right now, each mood board you include has the same effect. In the future, Midjourney might let you control how much influence each one has. A small note: when you mix mood boards with style references (SRF codes), the Style Weight parameter (`--sw`) doesn't seem to work correctly. It seems to be ignored. This might change soon.

Describe Tool is Now on the Website

Midjourney's tool called 'Describe' is now available right on the website. This tool takes an image you provide and suggests different prompts that could create similar images. It's been available on Discord for a while, but having it on the website makes it easier to use.

There are two ways to use Describe on the website:

  • Right-click on a Midjourney image and select 'Describe'. Then go to the create page, and you'll see four prompt ideas. You can try any of these.

  • Drag an image into the imagine bar. A drop space will appear. Drop your image there, and you'll get new prompt suggestions.

Remember, these are starting points, not meant to make an exact copy of the image you show it. The website previously had a different feature (the 'i' button on uploaded images) that gave descriptors, not full prompts. It's not clear if that older feature will stay.

Managing many prompts and variations can take time. Think about using a tool to help automate repetitive tasks. The TitanXT Midjourney Automator is designed to streamline your workflow, letting you focus more on creative decisions and less on manual input.

Upcoming: Midjourney Version 7

Everyone is waiting for Midjourney V7. The team is working hard on it, but the release date has shifted slightly due to some unexpected issues. The plan now is for V7 to launch around mid to late February.

V7 is expected to bring big improvements:

  • Better overall image quality.

  • Stronger understanding of your prompts.

  • Better consistency in images, especially with tricky things like hands holding objects.

  • Improved support for creative text.

  • Enhanced multilingual support, making it easier to prompt in languages other than English.

When V7 first comes out, some features might not be available right away. This happens with new model releases. Midjourney usually adds more features and refines things in the weeks following the launch.

Key V7 Features Expected

An exciting feature coming with V7 is a new character reference system. This system should do a better job of matching characters you provide, whether the original image was made with Midjourney or not. The ability to handle multiple reference characters is also expected, though it might not be ready exactly when V7 launches.

Your personalization profiles and mood boards will work with V7. There will also be a style reference (SRF) system in V7, and it's expected that you will be able to use images for style references from day one. However, the format for V7's SRF codes and if V6 codes will work are unknown right now.

One reason the V7 release has taken time is that Midjourney has made big changes to their building process behind the scenes. Once V7 is out, these changes should make it easier for them to release future updates faster. They are actually hoping to have six to eight major releases this year after V7.

Looking Ahead: Video and 3D Features

Midjourney is getting closer to releasing its first video features. They are planning a unique approach by working with partners instead of launching their own video model right away. Initially, they might release one or two partner models with some Midjourney enhancements layered on top. This experimental approach will help them understand what users want from video generation before they potentially train their own models later. Expect to see video features within the next month.

The team also feels good about releasing 3D features soon. The first version won't be generating full 3D models from scratch. Instead, you'll likely be able to take a 2D image and make it feel 3D. This will allow you to move the camera around the scene to get different angles and then create new images from those viewpoints. This feature is expected to work well with both single objects and complex scenes.

Exploring all these features and models can feel like a lot to keep track of. Using a tool like the Midjourney Automation Suite from TitanXT can help you manage different prompts, settings, and experiments more easily, giving you more control over your output and saving you time.

Other Midjourney Notes

The Midjourney Relax Mode is still available for everyone right now. This lets you generate images quickly without using your Fast hours. You can even use advanced prompt structures like `repeat` and `permutation` while in Relax mode. This special Relax feature will likely continue until V7 launches, so make the most of it while you can.

Bigger image grids, showing eight images at once, are still planned. However, it’s not known if batch size 8 will arrive before or after V7. This won't just be running your prompt multiple times; it involves a different generation process and needs updates to the website interface first.

Wrapping Up

January brought some useful feature additions and a clearer picture of the exciting V7 release timeline. With better image quality, improved prompt handling, and potential video and 3D tools on the horizon, Midjourney continues to push forward. Stay tuned for the V7 launch and what comes next!
