Curious about the latest happenings in Midjourney? We've got a recap of the office hours from April 9th, covering the new version 7 alpha, coming features, speed improvements, and what the future might hold.
Early Look at Midjourney Version 7 Alpha
The version 7 alpha model was released recently. It's still very early days. The team is testing things and gathering data. They plan weekly releases over the next month or two to bring it closer to being the default model.
Features Coming Soon
Expect updates soon that will add some key features:
Tile support
Remix mode
A better enhance mode for draft images
The team is prioritizing what's most important and also easy to implement quickly. Character reference is a big goal, but that takes much more time.
Tell Us What You Think About V7
There is a new way to give feedback on version 7 images. This is available only on the Midjourney website. When you click on an image, you can share your thoughts on it. Look out for more ranking parties coming soon, perhaps starting this Friday.
Giving feedback helps improve the model, but getting the right kind of data is important. The team shared a funny example of how wrong data could lead to strange results, like turning an image of Jesus into a very muscular figure.
Improving Image Quality and Speed
Midjourney wants to increase the number of stunning images users create. They are working to improve the average quality of pictures. The team is very hopeful that version 7 can get much better. They are planning changes for image quality and how coherent images are. There's talk about a 'Q4 mode' idea, like a much higher quality setting for the bot.
Big behind-the-scenes improvements are coming too. This will make things faster. The standard 'fast mode' should get quicker. The aim is for everything to become cheaper and faster over time.

Looking Ahead: Version 8 and Beyond
The team isn't sure exactly what 7.1 will look like. They are likely thinking about going straight to version 8. They are working on new data and a new model structure, which will take about three to four months.
Video model training is also happening. There might be some delays if things aren't finished by the end of the month. This is partly because they are changing servers. While not ideal in the short term, this server switch will allow them to release very different models later this year. The current servers limit the types of models they can train.
Other Features and Timelines
Features like inpainting and retexture might take a bit longer. These need some training and could be pushed to next month.
