Exploring different versions of Midjourney can show you surprising results, especially when you have a specific creative goal. We wanted to see how Midjourney Version 4 and Version 5 handled the same request: designing a landing page.

Getting good landing page designs is a common use for AI image tools. Since Midjourney updates often, it's helpful to know which version works best for certain tasks. Let's look at the results we got comparing V4 and V5 for getting a website landing page design.

Starting Point: A Smoothie Shop Landing Page

We used a simple text prompt asking for a "smoothie shop landing page design." In Midjourney Version 4, this prompt gave really good results. We got several clear templates for landing pages that looked ready to use.

The images in V4 felt energetic and clear, fitting for a design purpose.

Trying the Same Prompt in Midjourney V5

Next, we took the exact same prompt and ran it in Midjourney Version 5, making sure to add the `––v 5` parameter. The results were quite different.

Instead of clear webpage layouts, Version 5 gave us highly realistic images of things like watermelons and lemons. The quality and detail in these images were amazing – the fruit looked incredibly real. But the overall image wasn't a landing page design layout like V4 produced.

This shows a key difference: V5 seems to focus more on realistic, almost photographic rendering of objects compared to V4's focus on composition and design layout for something like a webpage.

Exploring V5 with Parameters

We tried adding parameters to the V5 prompt to see if we could guide it towards a design layout. We used the `––stylize` parameter, setting it to 400. (Note: In V5, `stylize 0` gives a very photographic look, with higher numbers adding more artistic style).

Even with `stylize 400`, the results in V5 were high-quality images but still didn't look like landing page designs.

Next, we tried using an image prompt, adding a link to a landing page template along with our text prompt in V5. This did give us some images that looked more like landing pages, but they often had different shapes (aspect ratios) compared to the standard 16:9 ratio we got easily in V4.

Going Back to V4

When we ran the original simple prompt again without specifying a version (which defaulted back to V4 at the time of this test), we consistently got good landing page designs again. This confirmed that V4 was much better at interpreting the request as a structural design layout.

Conclusion: V4 for Design, V5 for Realism

Based on this test, here's the takeaway:

  • If you want Midjourney to create structural design layouts, like templates for a landing page, Version 4 seems to be the better choice.

  • If you need highly realistic, photographic images of objects or scenes, Version 5 offers amazing quality and detail.

Knowing which version works best for your task helps you get the results you want faster.

Creating many images for different concepts can be time-consuming. Automating repetitive tasks lets you focus on the creative part. See how the TitanXT Midjourney Automation Suite can streamline your image generation process.
